The Random Walk: Hanging around the restoration ecology, alternative currency and permaculture design corners of LinkedIn
Or how I tell myself my LinkedIn addiction is networking. Like being a social smoker, who sometimes socializes alone
I have of late, wherefore I know not lost all my mirth.
Well…
So back to hope where you can find it, which for me has been several groups on LinkedIn
Primarily the Grassroots Economics Foundation
Who have a blockchain backed system of commitment pooling which I’ve mentioned here.
Secondarily The Design School for Regenerating Earth which I ‘fell’ into, as one does, because of a friend of a friend.
They’ve been hosting webinars every two weeks for 250ish participants as well as tonnes of other stuff I haven’t had the chance to look at, and it’s been very inspiring.
Love Zoom or hate zoom, I would not have met so many like minded people in such a short period of time.
Another group I’ve spent less time with but found very inspiring is the EcoRestoration Alliance
So? In my own little way I’ve found a lot of hope in these groups. Not necessarily from the participants, many of whom think we’re in full collapse, but more because there’s so many people out there who’ve dedicated their lives to this stuff.
Do I think it will get worse before it gets better?
Yes. I think we’re a species that only moves when we have to, and, judging by COVID, would often prefer fighting to the death than agreeing on best ways forward.
But - that’s same as it ever was. I think plenty of people will ‘survive’, and , heck, I think the younger generations may actually turn this ship around despite the shit stack we’re handing them.
So what’s the inspirational bromide to wrap things up?
Absolutely do what you can. Never settle. March towards the sound of the guns. It’s better to die on your feet than live on your knees.
But when it’s beddy by time? Don’t fret. Nothing is under control.
